How to Convert the char to a int in Python

In this tutorial, we are going to learn about how to convert the char to an int (integer) in Python with the help of examples.

Consider, we have a following character (P) in our code:

c = 'P'

Now, we need to convert the above character P to the integer representation 80.

Using ord() function

To convert an character to a integer, we can use the built-in ord() function in Python.

The ord() function takes the string representation of a unicode character as an argument and converts it to the integer.

Here is an example, that converts character P to a integer:

c = 'P'
number = ord(c)

print(number)

Output:

80
