How to check if a list is empty using Python
In this tutorial, we are going to learn about how to check if a list is empty or not in Python with the help of examples.
Checking if list is empty
To check if a list is empty or not, we can use the if not statement in Python.
Note: Empty lists are treated as falsy values in Python.
Here is an example:
names = []
if not names:
print("list is empty")Output:
list is emptySimilarly, we can also use the len() function in Python.
The len() function takes the list as an argument and returns the number of elements in it.
names = []
# checking if list is empty
if len(names) == 0:
print('list is empty')
else:
print('list is not empty')Output:
list is empty
