How to count the total number of digits in a number in C#
In this tutorial we are going to learn, how to count the number of digits in a given number in C# with the help of examples.
Consider, we have following number in our C# code.
int postalCode = 600583;
To count the total number of digits in a given number, first we need to convert the number to a string then call a .Length
property on it. So it returns the total number of digits in number.
In C# the String.Length
property returns the number of characters in a string or it returns 0
for the empty string ("").
Here is an example:
using System;
class TotalDigitsCount {
static void Main() {
int postalCode = 600583;
int count = postalCode.ToString().Length;
Console.WriteLine(count);
}
}
Output:
6
In the example above, we first called the ToString()
method on the number, so it converts the number to a string then we used the Length
property to get the total number of digits.
Similarly, we can use the logarthmic solution to get the total number of digits from a number.
Here is an example:
using System;
class TotalDigitsCount {
static void Main() {
int postalCode = 600583;
double count = Math.Floor(Math.Log10(postalCode) + 1);;
Console.WriteLine(count);
}
}
