touch is not recognized as an internal or external command

When you try to create a new file using the touch app.js command in windows os, you will see the following error is displayed in your command line.

Output:

'touch' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

This error is occurred due to the touch command is not available in windows os. It is only available in Linux/Mac based operating systems.

To fix the error “‘touch’ is not recognized as an internal or external command”, open the command prompt in windows and run the following command npm install touch-cli -g to install the touch cli:

npm install touch-cli -g

Once, it is installed successfully, you can use the touch command to create a new file like this:
