How to add a elements at the end of a list in Python
In this tutorial, we are going to learn about two different ways to add a new elements to the end of a list in Python.
Using append() method
To add a element at the end of a list, we can use the built-in append()
method in Python.
The append()
method takes the element as an argument and appends it to the end of list.
Here is an example:
list = [1, 2, 3]
list.append(4) # adding 4 at the end
print(list)
Output:
[1, 2, 3, 4]
Using insert() method
We can also use the insert() method in python, to add a element at the end of a list.
The insert() method accepts two arguments, the first argument is index of an element, and the second argument is value that is inserted in that index.
Here is an example:
list = [1, 2, 3]
list.insert(len(list), 4) # adding 4 at beginning
print(list) # [1,2,3,4]
Note: The
len()
function returns the total number of elements in a list.
