Get the first element of a array in JavaScript
In this tutorial, we are going to learn about two different ways to get the first element of a array in JavaScript.
In JavaScript, Arrays are zero based index, where the index of the first element is 0
, the second element is 1
, third element is 3
and last element index is arr.length-1 etc.
Consider, we have an array with 3 elements like this.
const arr = ['lol','ball','doll']
Get the first element of a array
To get the first element of an array, we can use the square brackets syntax by passing the index 0
.
So it returns first element from the given array.
Here is an example:
const arr = ['lol','ball','doll'];
console.log(arr[0]); // 'lol'
Second way: Using the slice method
In es6, we have a slice( ) method, if we pass 0,1
as arguments to the slice()
method,we can get the first element of an array.
Example:
const arr = ['lol','ball','doll']
console.log(...arr.slice(0,1)); // 'lol'
The slice()
method doesn’t modify your original array instead of creates a new array with the modified values.
