How to get the first n characters of a string in C#
In this tutorial, we are going to learn about how to get the first n number of characters from a string in C#
Getting the first n characters
To get the first n characters of a string, we can use the built-in Substring()
method by passing the 0, n
as arguments to it.
Where 0 is the start index, n is the number of characters we need to get from the string.
Here is an example, that gets the first 3 characters from a name
string:
string name = "pearson";
string firstThree = name.Substring(0,3);
Console.WriteLine(firstThree);
Output:
pea
In the example above, we have passed 0, 3
as arguments to the Substring()
method. So it starts the extraction at index position 0
and extracts before the index 3
.
