Strings are the array of characters, where the index of the first character is 0, the second character is 1 etc.

Getting the first character

To get the first character of a string, we can use the [] notation by passing 0 as an index to it.

Here is an example, that gets the first character p from the following string:

#include <stdio.h>

int main() {
  char fruit[4] = "pear";
  printf("First character : %c \n", fruit[0]);
}

Output:

First character : p
